Karkatar mountain is located in Vayots Dzor region, 5 km northwest of Hors village. Mount Karkatar is considered to be the highest peak of the same of Karkatar mountain range, with a height of 2961 m. The length of the Karkatar mountain range is about 25 km and stretches through the northwestern part of the Vayots Dzor region, starting from the Mknasar peak of the Vardenis mountain range.
There are two main hiking routes to reach the top of Karkatar mountain: from Hors village, the length of the route is about 20 km, and the relative height is 1300 meters. As well as from the village of Yelpin, in which case very often some part of the road is crossed by SUVs.
